Synthetic Aperture Radar in Europe
نویسندگان
چکیده
ollowing the successful Seasat project in 1978, the European Space Agency used advanced microwave radar techniques on the European Remote Sensing satellites ERS-1 (1991) and ERS-2 (1995) to provide global and repetitive observations, irrespective of cloud or sunlight conditions, for the scientific study of the Earth’s environment. The ERS synthetic aperture radars (SARs) demonstrated for the first time the feasibility of a highly stable SAR instrument in orbit and the significance of a long-term, reliable mission. The ERS program has created opportunities for scientific discovery, has revolutionized many Earth science disciplines, and has initiated commercial applications. Another European SAR, the Advanced SAR (ASAR), is expected to be launched on Envisat in late 2000, thus ensuring the continuation of SAR data provision in C band but with important new capabilities. To maximize the use of the data, a new data policy for ERS and Envisat has been adopted. In addition, a new Earth observation program, The Living Planet, will follow Envisat, offering opportunities for SAR science and applications well into the future. (

The Object Detection Efficiency in Synthetic Aperture Radar Systems
The main purpose of this paper is to develop the method of characteristic functions for calculating the detection characteristics in the case of the object surrounded by rough surfaces. This method is to be implemented in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems using optimal resolution algorithms. By applying the specified technique, the expressions have been obtained for the false alarm and cor...
متن کاملApplication of Displacement Map Produced by Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Technique in Height Datum Determination in the Subsidence Area
Damages due to subsidence such as destruction of watering system and agricultural fertile soil, wells increasing, damage to the roads, bridges and high ways and disordering in the water and gas supplying usually are irreparable and costly. As a huge amount bench marks of height network of Iran are placed in the subsidence area, changing their heights is a challenge for NCC. In this study, a new...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Using Laplace Distribution
Speckle is a granular noise-like phenomenon which appears in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images due to coherent properties of SAR systems. The presence of speckle complicates both human and automatic analysis of SAR images. As a result, speckle reduction is an important preprocessing step for many SAR remote sensing applications. Speckle reduction can be made through multi-looking during the...
متن کاملSpeckle Reduction in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images in Wavelet Domain Exploiting Intra-scale and Inter-scale Dependencies
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are inherently affected by a multiplicative noise-like phenomenon called speckle, which is indeed the nature of all coherent systems. Speckle decreases the performance of almost all the information extraction methods such as classification, segmentation, and change detection, therefore speckle must be suppressed. Despeckling can be applied by the multilooki...
متن کاملStudy of subsidence of Abarkooh plain of Yazd using the Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry method
Abstract The population growth, the development of cities, industry, agriculture, and improper use of resources especially non-renewable resources have led human beings to face the danger of running out of resources. In some cases, in addition to the above, irreversible environmental and geological hazards have occurred due to the overdrawn of resources. Over extraction of groundwater resourc...
متن کاملA Robust SAR NLFM Waveform Selection Based on the Total Quality Assessment Techniques
Design, simulation and optimal selection of cosine-linear frequency modulation waveform (CNLFM) based on correlated ambiguity function (AF) method for the purpose of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is done in this article. The selected optimum CNLFM waveform in contribution with other waveforms are applied directly into a SAR image formation algorithm (IFA) and their quality effects performance ...
